Our research is directed primarily toward plant-virus interactions, specifically potyvirus infection of cucurbit crops. From the host side we are genetically and physiologically characterizing naturally occurring potyvirus resistance in cucumber; from the virus side we are investigating viral domains that influence host range and/or trigger host defense responses. We are also identifying and characterizing host proteins that directly interact with viral proteins and are studying the interaction between viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and host poly- (A) -binding protein. A second area of research is the study of the molecular basis for differential sex expression in cucurbits.
